How to navigate through a Nova session

Jun 10, 2020

Maybe you are new to Nova or someone invited you to a session as a guest or a team member. Either way, a Nova session is a collaborative working space where everyone is encouraged to participate and share their perspectives.

Let’s check it out!

When you are invited to a new session you will receive a link that will directly open the session for you.

If you don’t already have an account with Nova you will need to create one and verify your email address before gaining access to the session.

Each session is different and uses different resources and actions to be performed, but let’s take an example to see what a typical session might look like.

At the top of the session, you will find key information like the start date, and the due date. Just below these dates, you’ll find a link that should lead you to the corresponding video call or chat location, as defined by your session leader. Start by making sure this is working and you’re able to connect to your team.

Feel free to read the tool description to get an idea of what is expected. Finally, before you start working, be sure to read through the session goals/instructions the session leader has written for your team at the top of the work area.

This should clearly define the expected outcome of your time spent together in this workspace.

It’s important to note that each session is different but in general, can ask for 5 kinds of actions(ways to capture your perspective):

  • Note: which in general answers a specific question being asked in the step.
  • Board Contribution – which provides a link to the session board and asks to contribute specific information there.
  • Role assignment – This will provide you with a role or perspective you should adhere to throughout the session.

  • Vote or Poll – This is a simple voting mechanism for you to choose your favorite idea or solution.
  • Card Deck – Which is a helpful way to open up discussions in your team and will either be used individually or on a board depending on the step.

Remember, what is important is that you share your thoughts and your knowledge so together you can bring the best solution or idea to life.
