Nova AI chat
Nova AI chat is an assistant that knows your project. Ask it what people recorded, have it summarize sessions, or ask it to change sessions, tasks and boards. It proposes each change first, and nothing changes until you approve it.
How do I open the chat?
Select Nova AI chat in a project's header. You can also open AI Chat from a session or a board. The chat opens in a sidebar and works on the project you are in.
What can I ask?
The chat suggests a few starting points: Search in the sessions, Summarize sessions, Add a new task and Customize my project or sessions. Some examples:
- "What did the client say about pricing in last week's sessions?"
- "Summarize the decisions from the kickoff workshop."
- "Add a task to send the contract, due Friday."
- "Rewrite the steps of the onboarding session for a smaller team."
- "Group the sticky notes on the board by theme."
- "Assign Nova AI to the research step."
What can the chat change?

| Boards | Add notes, labels, links and arrows. Move, group, recolor, reword or remove items. |

| AI coworkers | Assign Nova AI to a step or a whole session, and choose how it starts. |
The chat cannot do these things. Do them yourself in the app:
- Delete a whole session.
- Set session dates or recurrence.
- Invite or assign people.
- Change permissions or sharing.
- Change billing.
How do approvals and plans work?
For a small change, Nova AI shows the proposal with Apply changes and Discard.
For larger work, Nova AI writes a plan first. Read The plan, then select Run plan. Nova works through each part and checks the result. If a request is interrupted, select Resume. Anything already done is not repeated.
- Merge "Welcome call" and "Tools setup" into one session.
- Shorten the training steps from 8 to 5.
- Assign Nova AI to write the welcome pack.
Can I give the chat files and other sessions?
Yes. Select Add files or context, then choose Add session, Add project or Upload file. You can also drag files onto the chat. Nova AI reads PDFs, images, text files and Office documents.
Nova AI also looks up relevant sessions and files in the project by itself.
Can I talk instead of type?
Yes. Select the microphone in the chat box to dictate. Dictation works in Chrome, Edge, Opera and Safari. If the browser blocks the microphone, allow it in the browser settings.
Can I keep separate conversations?
Yes. Each conversation is a thread. Select New thread to start one. Open Threads to go back to an earlier one, rename it or delete it.
Can AI build a session for me?
Yes. Open an empty session and select Start with AI. You get four choices:
- Start from scratch: describe the session, for example "Create a team retrospective session with ice breaker activities".
- From file: turn a document into a session. PDF, Word, Excel, text, Markdown, CSV, JSON and HTML files work.
- Continue session: pick a previous session to pick up where you left off.
- Adapt process: pick a process and describe how to change it.
When you sign up and describe your goal, Nova AI also sets up your first project in the chat. It asks a few quick questions, then builds the sessions. See Get started with your workspace.
Check the answers
Nova AI can make mistakes. Double-check responses before you act on them.
Does the chat use AI credits?
Yes. Each request uses your workspace's weekly AI credits. The chat shows a notice when credits run low. See Plans, billing and AI credits.
