What is a process?
A process is a reusable recipe for work. It holds the steps, instructions and setup of a session, or the sessions of a whole project. You start from a process instead of a blank page, and you get the same quality of work every time.
What kinds of processes are there?
| Kind | What it creates | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Session process | One session with its steps, instructions and resources. | Sprint retrospective |
| Multi-session process | A whole project with its connected sessions, tasks and board. | Onboard a new client |
A process can also carry assignments. For example, a step can come assigned to a team member or to Nova AI.
Where do I find processes?
Open Processes under Resources in the left menu, or select + Start a Process. Both open the Process Library.
- Your processes: the processes your workspace saved.
- Created by Nova: processes the Nova team built and tested.
- Created by Experts: processes from experts and consultants.
- Build with AI: describe what you need, and Nova AI builds a new process for you. It uses AI credits.
Use Scope to show only session processes or only multi-session processes. Use Filters to narrow by Use Case or by Phase, such as Planning & strategy or Evaluation.
You can browse the Nova processes before you sign up, in the public process library.
How do I use a process?
Open a process to see its page. It shows what the process is for and each session and step inside it. Then choose one of these:
- Use this process creates new work from the process as it is.
- Use & customize with AI creates a new session and asks what you want to change. Nova AI then adapts the steps to your needs. This is for session processes.
A session process
Nova asks where to put the new session.
- Give the session a name.
- Choose a project, or select Create new project.
- Add a start date and a due date if you want them.
- Choose whether to keep the team member and AI coworker assignments saved in the process.
- Select Create session.
A multi-session process
Nova creates a new project. Give it a Project name and Goals for this project. Then choose a space, or select Add project without a space. You can move the project into a space later. Select Create project.
For processes your workspace saved, you can also keep the saved assignments with Preserve team members assignees for tasks and sessions and Preserve AI coworker assignments.
Can I add a process to a session I already created?
Yes. Open an empty session. The Session setup screen offers several ways to start. Select From Library and choose a process. Nova adds its steps to the session.
The same screen also offers Start with AI, a blank Whiteboard and a List Session. See Sessions and steps.
Someone sent me a process code. What do I do?
Open the Process Library and select Import by code. Type the code and confirm. The process appears under Your processes. If you already have it, Nova tells you.
